How to Keep Squirrels Away From Your Garden

The brand Yankee Flipper, Dipper et. al. bird feeders are great for feeding the birds and deterring squirrels. Some of their designs are weight specific holding the weight for smaller birds only. Heavier creatures cause the roost bar to “dip”; or a very smooth, plexiglass disk to drop sideways, thus no footing afforded. The items are an expense but worth it.
For the garden areas, old/unused CD’s hung with string from horizontal garden poles help a long with head-bobbing owls statues.
I have tried all the peppers and garlic and all the other natural tips. None work. As my friend said only poison and bullets work on them
The only thing I've found to keep them out of flower beds, window boxes & pots are strong coffee grounds. It's an ongoing job though..I sprinkle around edge of patio, sidewalk and add used strong grounds for watering, seems to help flower growth too. My neighbor hand feeds them causing them to be bit too comfortable being up close, very aggravating....& my yard smells like a coffeehouse! But so far it's worked thru 2 Summers & hopefully this will be 2nd Fall!
Tried blood meal as well. it didn't make a difference.
The squirrels in my garden love cayenne pepper.
I sprinkled and sprayed it everywhere and they still dug up all my flower pots and tore my seat cushions to shreds and made a mess.
I also tried garlic, peppermint and clove oil. Nothing worked.
Tried covering my pots with cardboard to hide the dirt as well. Didn't work. They probably could smell the soil.
They ate all my strawberry seedlings as well and killed my plants.
